Message by Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor, on Golden Jubilee of the University
It is an occasion of great pride and joy that University of Agriculture is completing its 50 years in 2011. The evolutionary process that this institution has gone through since 1961 when it was given the status of University has many landmark achievements in academia and technology development. It has served as a premier institution in the realm of agri-related disciplines in South Asia since foundation in 1906. University’s contribution has magnified several-fold in conformity with its concept, enlarged scope, attitude and canvas of academic activities, since its establishment.Through this historic journey, the University is proud to claims its role of torch bearer in agriculture and live-stock education and has given birth to two major specialized universities of higher learning (PMAS University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore). Producing nearly 50,000 graduates in various specialized disciplines, countless research papers and numerous award winning projects, the University has emerged as the national asset and resource in agricultural research, technology and development.
Predominantly being an agrarian nation, we envision Pakistan with an advanced agriculture system that ensures food security. University’s niche to empower the agriculture sector for socio-economic (and particularly rural) development has translated through numerous community building schemes and pilot projects.
In the coming years, we put great emphasis on management of knowledge that is being produced faster than ever and how it can be translated into tangible actions. The university envisions increasing interventions in the areas of Bio-technology and Precision Agriculture vis-à-vis the emerging challenges of climate change.
At this historic moment of celebration, I invite you to join us in celebrating our pride and commitment to making the country green and prosperous.
